LEATHER

Vegetable Tanned Leather

Natural vegetable tanned leather is one of the most traditional and rewarding leathers to work with. Each hide displays its own unique scars, marks, and grain patterns, meaning every piece I create is truly one of a kind.

I hand dye and finish every hide myself, a process that takes up to two days before crafting can begin. The result is a leather that ages beautifully, developing a rich patina and character that only improves with time.

Walpier Buttero

Walpier Buttero is a premium Italian vegetable tanned leather renowned for its smooth finish, vibrant colours, and exceptional quality. Produced by the renowned Walpier tannery in Tuscany, it arrives pre-dyed, allowing for a consistent and refined appearance while retaining all the character and durability of traditional vegetable tanned leather.

Smooth to the touch and rich with that unmistakable classic leather aroma, Buttero offers a luxurious feel from day one. Over time, it develops a subtle patina, softening slightly with use while maintaining its clean, elegant appearance.

Badalassi Carlo Pueblo

Badalassi Carlo Pueblo is a premium Italian vegetable tanned leather celebrated for its distinctive matte texture and rich character. Produced by the renowned Badalassi Carlo tannery in Tuscany, Pueblo features a unique brushed finish that gives it a rugged yet refined appearance from the very beginning.

Soft to the touch and carrying an incredible natural leather aroma, Pueblo is full of personality. As it ages, the surface gradually burnishes through use, revealing deeper tones and developing a beautiful patina that makes every piece uniquely yours.

THREAD

Every item is stitched using thick 0.8mm polyester thread, chosen for its exceptional strength, durability, and resistance to wear. While thinner threads may create a finer appearance, I prefer a heavier thread that complements the robust nature of handmade leather goods and is built to withstand years of daily use.

Durability isn't just a specification on paper. One customer recently reported that after six years of carrying their wallet every day, not a single stitch had broken. That's the level of longevity I aim for in every piece that leaves the workshop.

BALM

Every natural vegetable tanned leather item is treated with my own handmade leather balm before it leaves the workshop. Made from a carefully balanced blend of almond oil, beeswax, and cocoa butter, it helps nourish the leather while providing protection against everyday wear and the elements.

The balm is designed to preserve the leather's natural beauty, keeping it supple and helping it age gracefully over time. Regular application can enhance the development of a rich patina while protecting the leather from drying out.

For those who want to keep their leather goods looking their best for years to come, my handmade leather balm is also available to purchase separately.

HARDWARE

I only use hardware that meets the highest standard I can find. Every split ring, rivet, spring button, and HK clip is carefully selected for strength, reliability, and long-term durability. If a component doesn’t perform exactly as it should, it doesn’t make it into production.

When I can’t find hardware that meets my standards, I simply don’t rush the process. I either continue testing until I source the right parts or hold the project back until the quality is where it needs to be. In some cases, items may be released as reduced-price B-stock or test pieces.

At the moment, I am extremely confident in the quality of the hardware I use, from the split rings to the rivets, spring buttons, and HK clips, all chosen to match the standard of the leatherwork itself.

OTHER INFORMATION

MATERIAL CHARACTER & NATURAL VARIATION

All items are made using vegetable tanned leather. This is an organic material, meaning every hide will naturally vary in appearance and structure. You may notice features such as scars, insect bites, wrinkles, stretch marks, small brands, and grain variations. These are not defects, but part of the leather’s natural life history.

I carefully select hides for quality and usability, but natural markings cannot always be avoided. Where possible, I position cuts to minimise disruption, but in many cases I choose to embrace these characteristics as they give each item a unique identity. No two pieces will ever be identical.

COLOUR, DYING & FINISH

All leather that is hand dyed is finished in my workshop using traditional methods. Because of this, slight variations in tone, shade, and depth of colour can occur between batches or even within the same piece. This is a normal part of the process and contributes to the handmade character of each item.

Some light colour transfer may occur during the early stages of use, particularly with darker dyes. This will reduce over time as the finish settles and the leather naturally seals through wear and handling.

IMAGES & REPRESENTATION

Product photos are taken to be as accurate as possible, but some images may be for illustrative or example purposes. Due to natural variation in leather and lighting conditions during photography, the item you receive may differ slightly in tone, texture, or grain pattern.

All products will always match the listed design, function, and construction.

WEAR, PATINA & LONGEVITY

Vegetable tanned leather is designed to age beautifully. Over time, the surface will develop a natural patina, becoming richer in colour and more personal with use. Areas of frequent contact may become smoother and slightly darker, while edges and folds will evolve based on how the item is carried.

This ageing process is expected and is part of what makes each piece unique. With regular use, the leather becomes softer and more characterful, telling the story of its journey.

HARDWARE & COMPONENTS

All hardware is chosen for strength and reliability, including split rings, rivets, spring buttons, and HK clips. These components are selected to complement the durability of the leather and are tested for everyday use.

In rare cases where components do not meet my standards, items may be held back, reworked, or released as B-stock/test pieces at a reduced price.

CARE & PROTECTION

Each hand dyed item is finished with a protective treatment and benefits from occasional conditioning to maintain its quality. Avoid prolonged exposure to water and direct heat, as this can affect both colour and structure over time. Regular use, however, is encouraged, as leather performs best when handled and worn.
